These Forstner drill bits are used for drilling wood - guided by the rim and not a centre point, therefore not easily deflected by timber’s natural differences, such as knots or strong grain patters.

Main advantage is that it can be used to drill large, shallow holes (useful for the LUMA LED DESK LAMP kit) or very deep holes.
