The 'Wheel & Axle' is a simple pair of pulleys made from very strong 5 ply timber and sealed against moisture. The pulleys are 150mm and 75mm diameters and are fixed together as one 'dual diameter' pulley, with a central bearing so it can rotate freely on a strong 10mmD rod. By winding cords around each size pulley and using weights, the mechanics of 'double pulleys' and ratios can be studied.
