Simple Voltaic Cell
Simple Voltaic Cell
Code: PH0924
A device to convert chemical energy into electrical energy. It is the most basic type of “wet” cell.
Consists of a glass jar, 15cm high x 10cm diameter, with zinc and copper plates. The plates are partially immersed into the electrolyte liquid (eg. sodium chloride). The metals will react by dissolving into positive ions at different rates, resulting in a potential (voltaic) difference between the two plates.
Excellent set to start with in more junior classes for demonstrating electrochemistry before progressing to more complex concepts later on.
